Spitfire

by Barrie Clark

2006 sees the 70th anniversary of the Spitfire, one of the lasting symbols of the Battle of Britain.

During the summer of 1936, the government ordered 310 Spitfires to be constructed. This was the largest order that had ever been given to a manufacturer at that point.

We know from experience that interest in this superbly streamlined fighter plane continues to be as strong as ever.  Of the 4,500 images we had in our range last year, one of the best-selling subjects was still the famous Barrie Clark painting of a Spitfire.
