This week sees the
launch of a series of events throughout the summer to
commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which took place during the Second
World War. This most important event in British Air Force history occurred over British
skies during the summer and autumn months of 1940. It was the first major campaign to be fought
entirely by air forces, and was also the largest and most sustained
aerial bombing campaign to that date. The fighter plane,
Spitfire, became one of the lasting symbols of the battle.
Rosenstiel's has a number of
prints associated with the Battle of Britain and we know from
experience that interest in this subject continues to be as
strong as ever. Indeed, Barrie Clark's famous painting of the
Spitfire is still one of our bestselling prints.
