Artist Biography
Julian AskinsJulian Askins was born in Monmouthshire 1961. Having always had a passion for drawing, he studied art in the early 1980s, gaining an honours degree in Fine Art Printmaking. In 1986 he opened a printmaking studio producing limited edition screen-prints, running a gallery alongside for 12 years. As his work became more in demand and the pressure of producing more work grew hard to keep up with, he decided to concentrate on just painting the originals with the prints editioned in studios elsewhere.

His work is figurative, creating a realistic, impressionist interpretation of scenes based on sunny climates; views of lakes and harbours; verandas and patios; small brightly coloured houses clinging on to the waters edge; but predominantly plenty of flowers and fauna, which create a rich tapestry of paint, texture and colour.

The painting and prints he produces capture the heat and light of the Mediterranean, Florida and the Caribbean. His rich colours convey the atmosphere of such places. Julian Askins is inspired by a beautiful view bathed in brilliant sunshine, with clarity of colour; coolness of shadows; sparkle of light on water. He aims to recreate the mood and atmosphere found in such tranquil locations.

Julian Askins still lives and works in Wales with his wife and two sons, where his studio in a rural setting provides the tranquillity necessary to pursue his painting career. Meanwhile he often visits sunnier climates and his work continues to be popular around the world.
